If you are reading this post and have not checked out our previous post under manufacturing titled “What’s All the Fuss About Butcher Block Tables?” go check that out first!
This project was a very tedious one! We had over 50 table tops that were manufactured entirely in our warehouse.
As soon as the project was sent in, our welding shop got straight to work on the frames while our carpentry shop got busy cutting all the little pieces of wood that we then individually placed on the wood base with the frame in place. Once the tables had set we removed the frames and sent them in to get powder coated. Meanwhile back in the carpentry shop the sanding commenced. After days of sanding our shop was covered with dust and were finally able to start staining. Well, we had to test the stains and get approval first and that actually proved to be more difficult than expected. Stains look so different under the sun vs. in the shop vs. in a restaurant so with all this in mind we had to take in consideration the environment the tables will be in when they get delivered to the restaurant and what the client wants. After many pictures and long debates we finally got the OK and we were able to start staining all the tables. Then back to sanding any imperfections and we could then apply a sealer and clear. After letting the tables dry we then double checked the quality, made sure any imperfections were fixed and by then the frames were back from the powder coat shop ready to be installed. Lastly we made sure the tables fit properly with the frames and Voila! Our tables looked amazing.
This project took approximately 6-7 weeks, but part of the crew was gone for about a week in Texas installing some upholstery work we did for Hotel Drover in the Fort Worth Stockyards. Be on the lookout for a post about that project soon!
